Assessment of Oxidative Stress in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke
نویسندگان
چکیده
A lot of studies showed the role of oxidative stress in more than 100 diseases, many neurodegenerative diseases and also in ischemic stroke. Objective: to assess the variation of oxidative stress in the acute phase of ischemic stroke and to find if there is any correlation with the clinical status or with any other biochemical parameter. Methods: We prospectively studied markers of oxidative stress – Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), uric acid, albumin, and copper in 27 patients with acute ischemic stroke comparing with 19 controls. Results and conclusions: We found mean levels for TAS and copper lower in patients with acute ischemic stroke than in controls. Levels of TAS correlated almost linearly with uric acid but not with albumin or copper. TAS correlated with NIHSS score in patients who presented higher or lower levels of one of the individual oxidative stress marker – uric acid, albumin or copper.

The Evaluation and Comparison of Oxidative Stress in Hemorrhagic and Ischemic Stroke
Background: Among different mechanisms, oxidative stress has a possible role in neural injury in cerebrovascular events. Objectives: Assessment the oxidants-antioxidants imbalance in ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. Materials and Methods: Serum level of malondialdehyde, the main marker of lipid peroxidation, and total antioxidant capacity were measured in a group of 48 stroke patients consis...

Background and Objective: Uric acid and vitamin C take part in protection mechanisms to overcome the oxidative stress that occurs in vascular accidents. Considering the prevalence of cerebrovascular accidents and unresolved position of these antioxidants, this study aimed to assess serum uric acid and vitamin C levels in acute ischemic stroke. Materials and Methods: A total of 50 patients durin...
متن کاملThe Relation between GABA and L-Arginine Levels with some Stroke Risk Factors in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients
Changes in extra and intracellular neurotransmitter amino acids concentration in the early stage of acute cerebral ischemia have been reported. In this the study, serum level of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) and L-Arginine in acute ischemic stroke patients was assessed. 60 patients with acute ischemic stroke and sixthy healthy volunteers as a control group were assessed. Serum GABA was measure...
متن کاملAssociation between Serum Uric Acid Level and Stenosis in Atherothrombotic Infarction
Background: Previous studies show that serum level of uric acid is significantly correlated with mortality and functional outcome in patients with ischemic stroke and according to some other studies, ischemic stroke is associated with stenosis of some stenoisis of somespecific brain vessels. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of hyperuricemia and its associa...
متن کاملSafety and feasibility of intravenous thrombolytic therapy in Iranian patients with acute ischemic stroke
Background: Thrombolytic therapy is the only approved treatment for acute cerebral ischemia. The hemorrhagic transformation is the greatest complication of this treatment, which may occur after recanalization of occluded artery. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated with clinical improvement and worsening in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with intravenous th...
